What Makes A Difference In Carpet Cleaning Cost? Newport Beach CA

What Makes A Difference In Carpet Cleaning Cost? Newport Beach CA

When considering carpet cleaning, the cost of the job shouldn’t be the only factor a homeowner takes into consideration. As with most things in life, you get what you pay for when it comes to carpet cleaning, and cut-rate services typically don’t have the training and technology that homeowners should expect from their professionals. For some homeowners, education and modern equipment are not that important, and for these homeowners, any cleaning is better than no cleaning. However, this is a risky mindset, as technicians can easily damage flooring if they are not careful or properly trained. What was supposed to be an inexpensive cleanup may instead be a major unforeseen expense.

What is the problem with hiring inexpensive carpet cleaning companies?

The cost of the job is usually dictated by the size of the area to be cleaned, and how soiled the fibers are. If a technician is offering cut-rate prices for every job, it’s a clear sign that the professional is not adjusting to the job and providing the appropriate service. For example, deeply embedded soils cannot be removed by a single pass of a hot water extractor or just any commercial grade vacuum. However, an uncertified professional is unlikely to take such things into consideration and work on autopilot, treating every job as if it’s the same.

Another problem with inexpensive cleaning services is that the technicians often use unsafe methods. When cleaning carpet, a precise amount of water has to be used. If there’s too much water present, it will make resoiling much more likely and possibly foster the growth of mold or bacteria. By the time a homeowner realizes that there is too much water present, it may be too late to do anything about it. Stains and chemical damage are common problems a technician has to deal with, but they require special cleansing agents and repair skills. An untrained technician may not even recognize the difference between chemical damage (like spilled bleach) and other soiling conditions.

What should a homeowner look for in a carpet cleaner?

Cost isn’t the best metric to use when assessing a technician. Instead, a homeowner should focus on a professional’s experience level and educational background. There are a few organizations that offer certification programs for cleaning technicians, but the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) stands out among them. During IICRC certification, professionals are tasked with addressing a range of soiling conditions and learn how to handle modern equipment and cleaning substances. Coupled with a nominal amount of on-the-job experience, IICRC certification will prepare a technician for any job situation they may face. The gulf in service quality between an untrained technician and an IICRC-certified professional is dramatic, and homeowners will never want to go back to inexpensive and novice cleaners once they experience the difference.
